The holiday season! It brings out the best and the worst in people. Here are five essential oils that can help you maneuver through this season with grace and peace.
When I first had the idea of essential oils cross my path I embraced it the way I do most new things presented to me. With a curiosity to see what may happen. One of the things I am most intrigued about by essential oils is the way one oil can work in many ways.
Let’s take the first essential oil, Wild Orange. It can be used as a powerful cleanser and purifying agent, it protects against seasonal and environmental threats, provides antioxidants, which are essential to overall health*, and is uplifting to the mind and body. All of those benefits from one drop of therapeutic grade essential oil!? Yes! It is one of my favorites to diffuse, and my kids love to apply it topically.
After a day of shopping in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I apply White Fir topically for soothing comfort. It has a calming effect, and for me, evokes feelings of stability. Since we have artificial Christmas trees in the house, I love diffusing it for an energizing effect and its’ bright holiday scent.
If I am looking for an energizing essential oil when I am doing my Christmas cards or hoping to finish the marathon shopping experience, I reach for Peppermint. This essential oil is great because it promotes healthy respiratory function and clear breathing*, and it promotes digestive health*. Particularly important for all of the rich holiday dishes I eat once a year! I like to place one drop in the palm of my hand with one drop of Wild Orange and one drop of Frankincense and inhale for a pick-me-up.
Another perfect holiday essential oil is Frankincense. It is one of my favorite essential oils that I use daily. I have a roller bottle of Frankincense on my person at all times. This therapeutic grade oil supports healthy cellular function*, reduces the appearance of skin imperfections, and, my all time favorite reason I use this oil, is because it promotes feelings of relaxation. I can apply it topically and not only feel myself relax, but watch those around me relax as well. A win-win for the stress filled holiday season!
In the evening after a fun filled day of the holiday season I like to settle down with a hot cup of water and add a drop of Cinnamon essential oil to it. This essential oil can be used to support a healthy metabolic function*, and to maintain a healthy immune system*. After being surrounded by people all day and eating whatever I like who couldn’t use the extra support!? Cinnamon essential oil is considered a “hot” oil and should not be applied directly to skin. It is recommended that you use a carrier oil (any fatty oil) when applying this oil.
Another thing to note is that not all essential oils are created equal. If you are applying an oil topically you will want to make sure it is a therapeutic grade oil. We apply most oils topically and we always have a diffuser going. If you stop by this holiday season I know you will smell one or more of these oils diffusing through my house.
