Is It Normal to Feel Stuck Before Coaching? What Your Stuckness May Be Trying to Tell You

Is It Normal to Feel Stuck Before Coaching? What Your Stuckness May Be Trying to Tell You

by mystic | Jun 19, 2026 | Coaching, Healing, Trust

If you’re considering coaching, there’s a good chance you’re feeling stuck. You may not even use that word. Instead, you might be saying things like: I don’t know what my next step is. I feel stuck in my career. I feel stuck in my relationship....
A couple of weeks ago, I was in my weekly coaching A couple of weeks ago, I was in my weekly coaching group when our coach asked for input on something he had been going back and forth on for days.

As I usually do, I asked him what his gut had said the moment he thought about the question — and reminded him to take the very first answer.

He gave it immediately.

And then, almost just as quickly, questioned it because it didn’t fit what he thought he “should” do from a business perspective.

It was such a clear example of how fast we can override ourselves.

The knowing is often there right away.

The challenge is trusting it before the mind steps in with all the reasons it doesn’t make sense, doesn’t fit the mold, or doesn’t look the way it “should.”

What stood out most was the visible relief on his face once he realized he didn’t have to force himself into the “right” answer — he could simply follow the one that already felt true.

By the end of the call, he thanked us for giving him permission to follow his gut instead of trying to fit the business norm.

Sometimes self-trust looks less like finding the perfect answer and more like being willing to honor the one that came first.

One part of this work that I never expected is whe One part of this work that I never expected is when an animal I’ve previously connected with reaches out after they have transitioned.

Sometimes they come through while I’m working.

Sometimes they make it very clear they want their person to schedule a session.
And sometimes they simply want to reassure the person they love most that they are okay, that they were heard, and that they are still very much present in spirit.

Recently, I had the honor of connecting with an animal shortly after his passing. His person was carrying questions, grief, and the weight so many of us hold at the end — wondering if we did enough, if we made the right choices, if our animal knew how deeply they were loved.

He was able to bring her peace.

He reassured her that she had done right by him through every stage of his life, right through to the end. In doing so, he gave her the space to exhale a little, soften a little, and trust what had been done with so much love.

It is one of the most humbling parts of this work — witnessing that love does not simply disappear when a body does.

And if I can help bring even a small measure of comfort, peace, or reassurance to those still here, I am deeply grateful.

A friend of one of my crew recently reached out be A friend of one of my crew recently reached out because her cat had started going outside the litter box after a move.

The first step, of course, was a veterinary visit to rule out anything medical.

Once that was done, it became clear this wasn’t random behavior. It was stress. It was discomfort. It was his way of making it known that something about the current situation was not working.

The interesting part was that the humans already knew that too.

They knew changes needed to happen.
They knew the situation wasn’t sustainable.
They knew something needed to shift sooner rather than later.

But like so many of us do, they had reasons for why it couldn’t happen yet.

And in his own way, he was saying: this needs your attention now.

Sometimes that is what our animals do.
They reflect back what we already know but are trying not to look at.

And honestly, humans do it too.

We know when something isn’t working.
We know when a change needs to happen.
We know when we’re exhausted, disconnected, or tolerating too much.

Sometimes the lesson is not that we need more information.
It is that we need to listen to what we already know.

What in your life is asking for your attention right now?

This week during the Whispers of Knowing Community This week during the Whispers of Knowing Community Hour, we spent some time reflecting on our growth.

Honestly, it's something I don't think most of us do nearly enough.

We're often so focused on what still needs to change that we overlook how far we've already come.

As members shared their reflections, I found myself smiling.

Some were surprised by how much had shifted.

Some felt a sense of peace.

Others were in awe because they had once believed they would never move beyond a particular challenge.

Yet there they were, looking back and realizing they already had.

It was a beautiful reminder that growth doesn't always arrive with fireworks and fanfare.

More often, it shows up in small moments.

A different response.

A new perspective.

A little more confidence.

A little less fear.

A little more trust in ourselves.

It's one of the reasons I talk so often about small, consistent steps.

They may not feel significant in the moment.

But over time, they create remarkable change.

I've learned through my own experiences and throug I've learned through my own experiences and through working with clients that many of us have been conditioned to believe we should be 100% certain before making a change.

We want guarantees.

We want proof that our decision will work out.

We want to know exactly how everything will unfold before we take the first step.

The problem is that life rarely works that way.

So we stay.

We stay in careers that drain us.

Relationships we've outgrown.

Situations that no longer fit who we've become.

This week, I spoke with a client who recently made a significant career change.

She told me:

"I was so miserable in that job. It was so toxic. I didn't realize how much it was affecting every other part of my life."

That comment has stayed with me.

Not because her new path came with guarantees.

It didn't.

But because she finally stopped waiting for certainty and started moving toward something better.

Looking back on my own life, some of the best experiences began with a simple yes and a whole lot less certainty than I would have preferred.

I've found the same to be true for many of my clients.

Sometimes the biggest risk isn't making the wrong choice.

Sometimes it's remaining where we already know we no longer belong.

I spent years listening to everyone except myself. I spent years listening to everyone except myself.

Advice can be helpful.

Perspective can be valuable.

And there are certainly times when another set of eyes helps us see something we've missed.

But at some point, I realized something.

The relationship I was building with Dicey was mine.

The experiences were mine.

The lessons were mine.

And the more time we spent together, the more I learned to trust what I was seeing, feeling, and experiencing for myself.

Not because other people's opinions didn't matter.

But because eventually there comes a point where we have to trust our own experience.

That lesson changed far more than my relationship with my horse.

This week, the Whispers animal communication group This week, the Whispers animal communication group gathered for one of our practice circles.

The animal we connected with was an incredibly gentle, loving soul who seemed to genuinely enjoy his role as teacher.

As always, there were pieces of information that were validated immediately.

And there were a few that weren't.

As we reviewed the session afterward, some members started focusing on the information that hadn't been validated.

What struck me was that they were overlooking just how much they had gotten right.

The messages.

The personality.

The feelings.

The details.

They had done an amazing job.

Yet their attention kept returning to the few pieces that weren't immediately confirmed.

The next day, I had two separate clients validate information that hadn't made sense during their sessions.

One followed up afterward.

One realized it during our conversation.

It was a good reminder that immediate validation isn't always the whole story.

And perhaps an even bigger reminder of how often we overlook what's going well because we're focused on the one thing that isn't.

Sometimes the lesson isn't that we're doing poorly.

Sometimes the lesson is learning to see the whole picture. ❤️
