How Do I Begin to Trust Myself Again? Practical Steps to Rebuild Self-Trust

Most people do not realize they have stopped trusting themselves until even small decisions feel exhausting. What should I say? What if I upset someone? Am I overreacting? What if I make the wrong decision? So instead of listening to themselves, they look outside...
Many people told me Dicey was too much horse for m Many people told me Dicey was too much horse for me.

Too much personality.
Too much energy.
Too much horse for our family.

And to be fair… there were moments over the years where I questioned myself too.

But underneath all the outside opinions and noise, deep down I knew he was supposed to be with us.

Eighteen years later, I can honestly say this horse has taught me more about confidence, leadership, trust, boundaries, love, and emotional awareness than I ever could have imagined back then.

He helped teach my kids those same lessons too.

He has protected us, grounded us, humbled us, and repeatedly shown us what partnership and trust actually look like.

Looking back now, I think one of the biggest lessons in all of it was realizing how easy it is to disconnect from your own knowing when enough outside opinions get involved.

Sometimes people mean well.
Sometimes they are projecting their own fears.
Sometimes they simply cannot see what you see.

But there are moments in life where quietly, underneath all the noise, you already know.

And often the exhausting part is not the decision itself.

It is constantly questioning yourself afterward.

This is a big part of the deeper work we continue exploring inside Whispers of Knowing — learning to trust yourself, recognize your own inner language, and stop immediately dismissing what you already feel and notice.

Sometimes life does not need a huge breakthrough.

Sometimes we just need to pause long enough to notice what is already beautiful around us.

I used to sing around people all the time. Then s I used to sing around people all the time.

Then somewhere along the way, after enough comments and self-conscious moments, I stopped.

Not dramatically.
Not intentionally.
Quietly.

I think many people do this in ways they don’t even fully realize.

They laugh quieter.
Speak less.
Second-guess themselves more.
Filter themselves constantly.

Little by little becoming easier for everyone else to digest.

What’s interesting is how often I now catch myself reclaiming those pieces again.

Singing again.
Laughing louder again.
Showing up more honestly again.

Life feels lighter when you stop editing yourself so heavily.

This beautiful soul was able to explain a few thin This beautiful soul was able to explain a few things to her mom during our session together, including the strong reactions to fast movements and why being left home alone sometimes actually allows space for decompression from energy that has been taken on.

It was interesting watching mom’s reactions to some of the information because often we do not realize our actions are being interpreted differently by the animal than we intended.

For example, coaxing them into something they do not want to do like taking a bath or getting into the car.

This sweet soul reminded mom that animals read the energy of everything — including words — and can often sense the intention behind what is being said long before we realize it ourselves.

And honestly, I think there is something important in that reminder for humans too.
Animals are constantly responding to the emotional environment around them, which is one of the reasons these sessions can become such powerful learning experiences for both the animal and the person.

By the end of the session, some simple action steps and adjustments were discussed to help support mom’s concerns moving forward.

Animal communication sessions are available for those wanting a deeper understanding of their animal’s emotional world, behaviors, and perspective.

If you’ve been in my world for a while, you probably already know the answer.

No.

No is a complete sentence.

Not:

No because…
No, I’m sorry…
No, but let me explain…

Just:

No.

And honestly, that took me years to fully understand.

I remember using that sentence with someone in public once who immediately tried to get me to explain myself.

And when I responded with:
“No is actually a complete sentence, and I don’t need to explain my reasoning,”
they were speechless.

Not because I was being rude.

But because many of us are so conditioned to overexplain ourselves that simple boundaries can feel shocking to people.

Learning not to explain every decision, boundary, preference, or need has made life so much lighter.

Less guilt.
Less overthinking.
Less emotional exhaustion.

Turns out “no” carries a lot less stress when you stop treating it like something that needs a courtroom defense attached to it.

These are the kinds of grounded real-life shifts we’ll also be talking about during this week’s Intuition Q&A gathering — not just intuition in theory, but how self-trust actually changes everyday life.

Memorial Day looks different for everyone.

For some, it is time with family and friends.
For others, it carries reflection, memories, and the weight of loved ones who are deeply missed.

Today, I’m thinking of and honoring those who gave their lives in service to others, along with the families and loved ones who continue carrying that loss.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and meaningful Memorial Day.

Growing up, I was not allowed to leave the table u Growing up, I was not allowed to leave the table until my plate was clean.

And honestly?
There are only so many peas you can feed the dog under the table before he eventually walks away too.

At the time, it was just normal.
Nobody questioned it.

You finish your food.
You ignore that you are full.
You keep eating because that is what you are supposed to do.

And for years, I carried that mindset without even realizing it.

Until recently, when my grandson told me:
My belly is full.

And this time, I listened.

That small moment stayed with me.

Because it reminded me how many beliefs we inherit automatically without ever asking ourselves if they still fit who we are now.

One of the biggest changes in my life has been learning to pause long enough to ask:

Do I actually believe this?
Or was this simply something I learned?

Because once you start questioning the beliefs you inherited automatically, something interesting happens:

- Life starts feeling lighter.
- Decisions become less exhausting.
- You stop overriding yourself constantly.
- You trust yourself more.
- You stop carrying guilt around every small choice.
-You begin responding to yourself with more awareness instead of automatic pressure.

That changes everyday life more than people realize.

These are exactly the kinds of grounded real-life conversations we’ll be exploring during this week’s Intuition Q&A gathering:
